I received The Journey Collection for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Journey of Champions, Book 2 Review

The Journey of Champions is a continuation of the story published in the Harvest Treats anthology entitled “The Journey Home”.

The first thing I want to mention was how I felt while reading this story. It was like slipping on an old comfy sweater, warm and comforting. Even with Travis in a different setting than he was in “The Journey Home”, the changes he had made were still evident. I remember sighing in delight several times while reading, happy that Travis was really moving on with his life.

Travis is in transition at this point. He’s tying up his loose ends in Miami so he can move back to Texas, back to Penelope and Max, permanently. At first thought, I imagined Travis would be making this journey on his own, as many great heros are forced to do. I was pleasantly surprised when Russ, Travis’ father, joins him as he is waiting for his plane.

Just when he was about to hightail it to the nearest restroom, someone sat down next to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. Travis looked up, gasping when he saw Russ there.

“Didn’t think I was gonna make it before they called our flight,” Russ chuckled before he could utter a sound.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Travis asked.

Russ smiled and shook his head. “I’m coming with you, boy. I once made the mistake of letting you go. I’ll be damned if I let it happen again. Besides, Miami is a huge part of your life, Travis. It’s time for me to see it, don’t you think?”

“But I thought you hated to fly.” Travis lifted an eyebrow in his father’s direction.

“I do,” Russ admitted. “But for you, I’m willing to give it a go. Just don’t laugh at me if I get a little scared. If people were meant to fly, God would have given us wings.”

Travis laughed. “You have my word, Dad.”

“Good,” Russ muttered, stretching his feet out in front of him.

“Dad, thank you for coming with me,” Travis said, his voice sincere. “It means a lot.”

“You’re welcome, Travis. Today is a new start for both of us – a new journey.”

Travis nodded. “The journey to forever.”

What could have been a lonely and painful journey for Travis turned into a father/son bonding experience and a cleansing step forward in his new life. A little spoiler, Travis does make it back to Texas after a couple bumps in the road.

The Journey to Forever, Book 3 Review
The Journey to Forever is the third installment in The Journey Series. I have to say I loved it just as much or more than the other two.

This story revolves around something we all experience in our lives. Transition. Since I’ve had a bit of experience writing and living a transition, I was able to relate to the trials that Travis goes through to establish himself within his new family. On his road he has to learn how to be a father, how to be a husband, and what kind of career to choose. As he hits a few bumps along the way, his family is right their beside him to help smooth his path.

From page one, I didn’t feel like an outsider looking in. I felt like I was sitting on Travis’ shoulder experiencing everything with him. It is so refreshing to be able to experience that kind of connection with a story, especially one written in third person.

Lisa Bilbrey has touched my heart once again with the conclusion to a tale of love, loss, and redemption.

The Journey to a New Life, Book 4 Review

The journey from single, NFL Quarterback to loving husband, father, and high school coach/teacher is finally complete for Travis McCoy. Lisa Bilbrey’s Journey Collection takes you on one man’s realistic sojourn from living the life he thinks he wants to living the life he knows he was destined to.

In the last installment of the Journey Collection, The Journey to a New Life, Travis faces becoming a father from conception for the first time. After missing the first ten years of his son’s life, Travis is determined to be there every step of the way with his wife, Penelope. Bilbrey injects several life affirming moments as the McCoy’s go through this pregnancy together.

At the beginning of his journey, I wasn’t sure a happy life in Texas was possible to Travis. After years apart and his absence from his son’s life, I knew it would take real dedication on the part of the former football hero to become the man that deserved his family. Bilbrey writes Travis’ transition in such a way that I felt I was sitting right next to him, pulling for him to make the steps he needed to make to get his happily ever after. I love that I was able to have such a connection with a character like Travis. I will miss the story of the McCoy’s, but look forward to reading Lisa Bilbrey’s work in the years to come.
