Anthony Carter has not had it easy in life. In a matter of months, he lost his mother to cancer along with his much coveted spot in a prestigious doctoral program. Swimming in debt, he's been forced to move back to his hometown in rural Montana and take whatever job he can find. A drunken weekend in Vegas is exactly what he needs to help him forget his problems.
A recent break-up with her boyfriend of nearly a decade has left straight-laced Liz Rockwell disillusioned with love and in desperate need of a vacation. She gets more than she bargained for when one drunken night at a Vegas bar results in her being married to Anthony. Embarrassed by her lapse in judgment, Liz is ready to make this whole night just go away. A quickie divorce seems like the best solution to their problem, until Anthony realizes who Liz really is.
Known in the media as the Candy Heiress, billionaire Liz is the answer to Anthony’s prayers. All he has to do is convince her to write him a check. Unfortunately, Liz is not one to be easily intimidated or coerced. Discovering the Rockwell family secret may be Anthony’s only hope. But the more time he spends with the intelligent and tenacious Liz, the more he realizes their chapel wedding may not have been such a drunken mistake after all...
I received How to Catch an Heiress (Heiress Series, #1) for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Liz and Anthony have more baggage than most couples. To complicate their lives, a drunk night in Las Vegas has the out-of-sync pair married. That is not even the most interesting part of this story. Once Anthony comes to see Liz on her home turf, I began to think this would turn into the War of the Roses.
Liz comes from money, but loathes spending a dime of it. She is independent, self-sufficient, and has her own career that gives her a comfortable living. Anthony is the only child of a single mother who recently died of cancer. Medical bills plus money owed because of the loss of a scholarship has left Anthony almost $200,000.00 in debt.
With all these problems, yet a enormous attraction once sober, these two couldn’t be more wrong for each other. Liz tries to fight Anthony’s natural charms every step of the way. Anthony attempts to woo Liz into at least liking him a little bit. Stubborn Liz and Tenacious Anthony fight an epic battle, but whether it’s to save or destroy their marriage is unclear.
I can’t give much more away without spoiling the story, but I throughly enjoyed this roller coster ride. Ms. Rios gave me a complex story with well developed characters. The alternating chapters with Liz and Anthony’s points of view was perfect for this story and the insight into each of them I craved.
For a read fraught with sexual tension, sparks of family discontent, and an abundance of people caught up in uncomfortable circumstances, How to Catch an Heiress is the perfect novel for you. This looks to be the first in a series and I am definitely looking forward to more from Natalie Rios.
