Some boundaries should never be crossed…
The diabolic Metal Woman takes three people hostage. Her ransom demand: the location of a mysterious and unprecedented weapon, rumored to have been a gift to the Third Reich from Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.
When a rescue attempt goes sideways, Cassidy Jones seeks justice. Her quest leads her to the Seattle Underground, where she falls into the grip of an inexplicable evil. Cassidy learns too late that her desire for revenge may cost the life of someone she loves.
I received Cassidy Jones and The Eternal Flame for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I’m so excited that Cassidy is back in her fifth novel! If you were thinking things were done when she defeated the Luminous in book four, you are so wrong. Things get even more dangerous as Cassidy and the gang go on a quest to find The Eternal Flame.
We left Cassidy in a safe place, but there was something she didn’t know. Her long time friend and current love interest, Jared, is now a Luminous. This element was revealed at the end of book four and I was extremely curious to find out how Stokes would deal with this element. While Cassidy and Jared got closer, something I wasn’t really happy about, I was terrified of Cassidy’s reaction once she ultimately found out the secret. I won’t tell you what her reaction was, but it wasn’t at all what I expected.
As for my upset about the closeness with Jared, that would be because I’m Team Emery all the way. Emery is her best friend and they can also read each other’s thoughts. One thing Emery learned in this novel was to block some of his thought from Cassidy. Emery does do something to show his feelings for his bff that I was cheering about even though it was pretty shocking.
Let’s get down to the action part of the novel. Remember Lily White from book two? Yeah, she’s back and now she has an indestructible metallic skin from the neck down. Now Lily wants The Eternal Flame and she’s got a clue on where it might be. Cassidy and Emery vow to find it before Lily even though they aren’t 100% sure what it is or what it does. The road to the flame is a rocky one. One important player is sidelined, Cassidy looses a lot of things (including her hair for a bit), and death is a real threat for the first time since Cassidy’s initial accident.
The twists and turns Stokes takes us on to find the flame left me gasping, crying, and laughing. I cheered when the gang triumphed and wept when characters met their fate. While things get somewhat settled, Stokes opens us to what is to come for Cassidy in the next installment which might be her biggest challenge yet. I will continue to re-read these five until Stokes can satisfy my hunger with another offering from Cassidy Jones.
