Series: Rules of the Rogue #2

Goodreads
“Strait-laced. Ruthless. Arrogant.”
Alexander Westhide, the Duke of Rakecombe has no quarrel with such faint praise as he has forever shunned marriage, women and anything remotely resembling love. Indeed, the damning words merely serve to enhance his haughty façade. But beneath the controlled demeanour lies a duke beset by tragedy, a man turbulent and restless.“Forthright. Impudent… Capricious saucebox.”
Miss Aideen Quinlan can’t quite express why she feels the need to taunt, tease and generally annoy the Duke of Rakecombe. Maybe it was for the heart-racing spar of words that always ensued, or maybe it was to see the duke’s broad fist clench on his ebony cane, green eyes glittering.
Or maybe it was because she was unable to erase the memory of his vehement kiss…An unlikely couple.
Torn between his world of espionage and this unquenchable passion, the duke still refuses to lower his fierce defences.
If Aideen is to capture her resistant duke’s troubled heart, it is she who must follow the Rules of the Rogue.
Resistance is futile…A sensual Regency Romance with warmth and wit, this story also includes unpalatable chefs, a darling of the Season with a secondary love story, deadly walking canes and sheep…
I received Let Sleeping Dukes Lie for free. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Also in this series: An Earl in Wolf's Clothing
Miss Aideen Quinlan is the epitome of an spitfire. Sometimes, that fiery temperament backfires. When it comes to Alexander Westhide, the Duke of Rakecombe, she doesn’t know weather to smack him or kiss him.
Alex and Aideen met when Alex’s friend and former spy, Abraham “Bram” Walcott, the Earl of Kenmarsh, and Aideen’s cousin, Sophie, fell in love and married in an unusual circumstance. A circumstance that ended up with Aideen being abducted and saved in a large part due to Alex.
This novel starts out hot and gets hotter with every page. I love a good enemies to lovers story, but this one has a fantastic twist. Alex holds everyone at arm’s length due to his spy business, even his mother. When his feeling for Aideen get in the way of his current investigation, there is trouble on all fronts.
I loved Aideen in the first book of this series, An Earl in Wolf’s Clothing. She challenged Alex even then. When their story was brought to the forefront, I loved her even more. Windsor showed us a vulnerability in the Irish lass who was learning to love and take on a man who never wanted to be taken. I found Alex more than a little stuffy, but when Windsor explained his silent heartache, I fell hard for this regency man in black.
This novel gives us romance, intrigue, adventure, and passion on the wild ride to forever with Alex and Aideen. The Rules of the Rogue series continues to deliver brilliant, original spins on the regency era. I can’t wait to see what else Windsor has in store for us as she continues. Maybe something with the devilishly charming Marquess of Winterbourne?
